FAQs
Bath bombs are a fun and fizzy way to add essential oils, mineral-rich salts, skin-soothing butters and more to your bathwater. We've put together some common questions that we get about our bath bombs so you can use them with confidence the next time you bathe.
WHAT IS A BATH BOMB?
Bath bombs are palm-sized spheres that fizz and dissolve rapidly in warm bathwater. And while they may add a touch of colour to the water, they're not just an aesthetic experience. We fill our bath bombs with a variety of all-natural ingredients designed to soothe your skin and help both body and mind relax.
HOW ARE BATH BOMBS DIFFERENT FROM BATH SALTS AND BUBBLE BATH?
Bath bombs are made with baking soda, which is a highly alkaline ingredient. This gives your bathwater (and skin) a silky feel. We also add plenty of natural essential oils to create specific aromatherapeutic effects.
Bubble Bath is made with soap for cleansing the surface of the skin to help loosen dirt and oil. They make bubbles for a short time and dissolve while softening the water.
Bath Salts primarily contain Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate), which soothe tired muscles—making them great for a post-workout soak. Pink Himalayan and sea salts help to cleanse the skin as well.
ARE BATH BOMBS STRONGLY SCENTED?
Yes. If you are sensitive to scent, bath bombs might not be a good choice for you. Instead, you could try adding bath salts, which are a little less fragrant but still provide a relaxing bath experience.
WHAT MAKES THEM FIZZ AND DISSOLVE?
The reaction between baking soda and citric acid is responsible for the fizzing action. When the bomb touches water, the sodium bicarbonate reacts with the citric acid and begins to break apart—releasing the pigments, essential oils and skin-conditioning plant oils.
ARE BATH BOMBS HANDMADE ?
All our Bath Bombs are Handmade here in the UK. Please note that as these are handmade and hand painted in small batches to keep freshness, there will be some differences in colour pigments.
HOW LONG CAN I KEEP A BATH BOMB BEFORE USING IT?
Store your bath bombs in an airtight container or a ziplock bag in a cool, dark place. This helps to protect the bath bomb from moisture and keeps it from drying out or losing scent. That said, we always recommend using our products sooner rather than later. The longer you wait, the less effective the product will be.
CAN YOU CUT THEM IN HALF TO USE THEM TWICE?
Our bath bombs are designed for single use. You can try to break them in half, but often we find this causes them to break and crumble further. The pieces will then dissolve faster than if they were whole and the overall experience will be less intensely relaxing. To get the full benefits we do recommend using the entire bomb in your bath. If you choose to take it out of the water half way through and keep it for later it might still fizz the next time you use it, but it won't be as effective.
ARE THE INGREDIENTS SAFE TO GO DOWN THE DRAIN?
Yes! Our bath bombs are made with natural ingredients that are good for you and won't harm out waterways.
ARE BATH BOMBS SAFE FOR USE DURING PREGNANCY?
Most of our bath bombs are safe to use after your first trimester, but we do advise limiting the use of lemongrass because this particular scent can be sensitising during pregnancy. If you have questions about using particular products during pregnancy, we recommend that you reach out to your primary care provider.
ARE BATH BOMBS SAFE FOR KIDS?
Our bath bombs are safe to use for children ages two and up.
DO BATH BOMBS IRRITATE SENSITIVE SKIN?
Our bath bombs should not irritate your skin, but they should not be used on broken or irritated skin. It is important to note that reactions to scent blends and essential oils are possible, so make sure you know what works best for your skin.
ARE BATH BOMBS MOISTURISING?
Yes! They are very moisturising for the skin. All of our bath bombs are made with coconut oil and cocoa butter, both of which are deeply hydrating.
DO YOUR BATH BOMBS CHANGE THE COLOUR OF YOUR BATHWATER?
White bath bombs turn the water cloudy, while colourful bombs create a paler shade that matches their outer exterior.
DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY TUB AFTER USING THE BATH BOMB?
It depends on which bath bomb you use. We do have natural colours in a selection of our bath bombs (Orange, Raspberry, Lemongrass, and Lavender), which have been found to leave a coloured ring around the tub. It is best to wipe any ring left from colours right after letting out the water to prevent colour stain build up. If you do this right away using a microfibre cloth, it should come off without the use of a cleaner. Botanicals/grains can be rinsed down the drain, but you can also choose to place the bath bomb in a small mesh bag or nylon stocking to catch the pieces of flowers or herbs as the bath bomb dissolves. Once the bath is over, all you have to do is empty out the bag or recycle it.
